Wisdom teeth and dental extractions

Wisdom teeth removal

We offer  24h round the clock wisdom tooth extractions  that are carried out by  specialist oral surgeons . Same-day appointments are available for existing and new patients (no registration required).

We also have a Sirona Digital OPG machine for digital X-rays which enables us to carry out comprehensive diagnostics before any teeth extractions.

Topical sedation  is always administered, and  intravenous sedation  is offered for teeth extractions if required.

The procedure requires the gum around the tooth to be lifted back and the bone around the tooth to be selectively removed to allow the wisdom tooth to be removed.

What is the procedure?

Before the wisdom teeth extraction takes place, the dental surgeon will first carry out a comprehensive diagnostics. They will then discuss the results of it with you, along with all associated costs and any additional information you need to have.

If you consent to the procedure, the surgeon will first administer topical sedation to ensure there is no sensitivity around the tooth. If you are a nervous dental patient, please let us know before your appointment, and we will provide additional support and reassurance to help you feel at ease ( find out more here) .

After the sedation numbs the area, the oral surgeon will carry out the procedure. If needed, they will make a small incision to release the tooth from the gums and allow for the extraction.

Sedation for wisdom teeth extraction

Topical sedation is always administered for wisdom teeth extractions to numb the area around the tooth and ensure there’s no sensitivity. The effect of the sedation typically lasts for several hours, allowing the initial healing process to take place before any sensitivity is restored. The oral surgeon will prescribe painkillers which should be taken after the effect of the sedation wears off.

For our nervous dental patients, we offer intravenous sedation. If you’d like to receive this type of anaesthesia, please notify our friendly receptionists when you book your appointment.

Is there an alternative to wisdom teeth extraction?

Extractions are typically suggested by your dentist when no other treatment is available to preserve the tooth. For wisdom teeth, however, extractions may sometimes be advised when the tooth is located deep inside the mouth and when this prevents proper hygiene to be carried out by the patient.

If you experience pain in your wisdom teeth, our dentists will be able to advise you on the possible treatments where this may include a root canal treatment or a caries treatment (filling) . If it is possible to preserve the wisdom tooth, your dentist may advise you to have more frequent dental hygiene appointments to avoid any tartar build-up around the tooth.

What to expect during an after a tooth extraction?

Tooth removal can either be regular or surgical. If you require a surgical extraction, your appointment will be booked with our highly experienced in-house oral surgeon.

Before proceeding with tooth removal, our dentist will carry out a comprehensive diagnostics and discuss the results and associated costs with you.

Aftercare

Following a wisdom tooth extraction, you should avoid eating and drinking for a few hours, as recommended by your dentist. Based on your pre-existing made conditions, shall you have any, your dentist may recommend specific medication to ensure your overall health is not compromised.

To prevent the development of a dry socket ( find out more here ) you should avoid drinking from a straw, spitting, and sneezing to the best of your abilities for a minimum period of 24h. A follow-up appointment is likely to be requested so your dentist can ensure the proper healing of the gums in the area of the extraction.
